"It started like any other night." Max (Jamie Fox), a likeable LA cab driver picks up a beautiful business woman (Jada Pinkett Smith), flirts with her, and asks for her business card. He is feeling good. His next fare, Vincent (Tom Cruise), apparently another successful businessman, hands him $600 and asks if he can reserve the cab for the rest of the night because he has five stops to make. Max quickly finds out that Vincent is actually a cool, cold-blooded hitman who won't let him go until his business is done. As the night proceeds they get to know each other pretty well. By the end of the night, Max ends up doing things he never thought was possible!
This film's characters will charm and captivate you. It is much more than a mindless action flick. It takes you deep into the psychological persona of the characters. It is a thinking movie. Why does Max never reach his goals? Does Vincent really care about Max or is he just making conversation?
I loved the unexpected, ironic ending, the incredible jazz soundtrack, and exceptional acting. It would not surprise me if Jamie Foxx earns an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for this film and for Best Actor for his performance in Ray. Highly recommended.
