The President of the United States (Michael Keaton) is faced with an enigma now that his daughter, Samantha Mackenzie (Katie Holmes), is going away to college. Does he ensure his daughter's safety by assigning the normal four Secret Service agents to protect her, or should he reduce the number and allow her more freedom? Samantha, spurred on by her enthusiastic roommate, Mia (Amerie Rogers) chooses more freedom. This leads to several awkward situations that ultimately embarrasses the First Family and jeopardizes her father's reelection. James Lansome (Marc Blucas) is the romantic interest who inadvertently becomes part of the trouble.
This predictable teen romance will appeal primarily to teenagers who are enamored with Katie Holmes. I liked it much better than Chasing Liberty, which has a similar plot. It accurately depicts the everyday problems the First Family faces by trying to lead a normal life. Fine performances by all, but this film does not offer any surprises nor does it explore anything new. That said, I found it to be a reasonably entertaining and wholesome family film.
