Stuffed shirt math professor Gregory Larkin (Jeff Bridges) becomes unhinged by any thought of sex. So he sets out to build a relationship based entirely on intellectual pursuits with drab literature professor Rose Morgan (Barbra Streisand). They get married, but she misses the physical intimacy. So, while he's traveling on a lecture tour, she exercises, loses weight, and gets a makeover. That still doesn't solve all their problems, but just creates new ones as her husband returns home to find a newly sexy wife.
