George Washington Mclintock (John Wayne) is a cattleman who must learn to live in conjunction with farmers moving onto the land. At the same time he must reconcile a longstanding feud with his wife Katherine (Maureen O'Hara) and come to terms with his daughter’s growing into a women. His daughter begins to fall in love with a farmer whose attractive mother works for Mclintock. This only ignites more jealousy with his wife. Mclintock in must 'fight', forgive, and love, to keep his land, his wife, and his daughter. With the support of his loyal ranch hand and cook, the situation comes to a hilarious climax at the town’s Forth of July celebration.
