Anna (Deborah Kerr) is a British widow who decides to accept a position as an English tutor for the King of Siam (Yul Brenner) and his many wives and children. As she disembarks from the sailboat with her son, all is not as she was promised. The King wishes her to live in the palace when she was promised her own house. Anna stands her ground and teaches the children and the King about Western ideas, while she learns the meaning of honor, friendship, and family. She charms the King into thinking about the outside world and the rights of women, culminating in a visit from British ambassadors.
