Two women decide to swap houses when Amanda (Cameron Diaz) splits with her boyfriend after she finds out he has been cheating. Iris (Kate Winslet) lives in England in a small cottage and is thrilled when she travels to Los Angeles to discover that she'll be spending a week in a huge California mansion. While Amanda is in England, she runs into Iris's brother Graham (Jude Law) and falls in love while across the ocean, is having her own fun. She makes friends with an older neighbor/director (Eli Wallach) and his pals and also begins to fall for a man of her own, Miles(Jack Black).
