“The Enforcer” details an early examination on film of the mob system of murder for profit. District Attorney Martin Ferguson (Humphrey Bogart) who resembles a tough Thomas Dewey of New York goes after one of the big mob leaders (Everett Sloan) by pulling information out of informers. Key witnesses, like fat Babe (Zero Mostel), come to unfortunate ends from threats and fears. Each member of the mob who squeals reveals a piece of the tale through flashback. The DA and his team must piece together the prosecution each time a key element is removed from them and keep the string going. But by hard-nosed detective work, the DA manages to keep his case in tact and discovers the framework of Murder, Inc., through unglamorous wiretaps and those who rat on their superiors.
