William Hundert (Kevin Kline) is a professor of Classics at an upscale, all-boys Prep school in the 1970s. He is adored by his students for his ability to bring the subject matter alive and for his idealism. One day, Sedgewick Bell (Emile Hirsch), walks into his classroom. Bell is a spoiled young man from a powerful Senator’s family. The teen is used to getting his way and taking the easy road. He cheats and bribes. Hundert takes on this personal challenge and the two eventually become friends. Hundert, however, will spend the next 25 years wrestling with the problems at the core of Bell and whether or not he helped.
