There's a secret in OR 8... Dr. Susan Wheeler's (Genevieve Bujold) friend lapses into a coma during what was supposed to be a minor routine operation. Deeply affected by this result, Dr. Wheeler investigates the surgery and begins to notice patterns in the records of patients becoming inexplicably comatose in her hospital. The more she searches for the truth, the less trust she has for everyone around her: her co-workers, her bosses, and even her boyfriend, Dr. Mark Bellows (Michael Douglas).
