The Cincinnati Kid (Steve McQueen) is a young up and coming Stud poker champion who has ventured to New Orleans during the 1930’s. In town, the kid goes from one saloon to another hustling and championing high stakes poker games throughout the city, all while drinking and womanizing. One day the kid meets up with Lancey Howard (Edward G. Robinson) widely believed to be the greatest Stud poker player in the entire world. The kid respects Howard’s ability, but also wants to become the best himself and take down him down a high stakes game. When a helpful gangster (Karl Malden) arranges the game between the two, the kid’s problems aren’t limited to just playing poker.
