A flashy and charming West Point cadet seems to slip by with a smile and a roguish attitude in "They Died With Their Boots On." His name is Custer (Errol Flynn). With a deplorable academic and military record, he can still amuse important generals like Winfield Scott (Sydney Greenstreet) and marry Libby (Olivia DeHavilland), a sweet and lovely girl of some importance. Having innumerable qualities of a ne’er-do-well, Custer remains is arrogant and ambitious in his dealings with nearly everyone but his wife. He grows long hair, dresses like a fop, and wants to be the most important general in the Army. After the Civil War, he chooses to help Native Americans find a permanent home, but unsavory elements and villains like Ned Sharp (Arthur Kennedy) double-cross him. He must face an angry Crazy Horse (Anthony Quinn) who has mustered thousands of his followers at Little Big Horn. The result is flashy arrogance meeting death in a crescendo of heroism and violence.
